Book Pool for Once Upon a Time

out3banner6200 People in Carl’s Once Upon a Time III challenge are all posting their lists of books from which they intend to pick their reading. I’m having so much fun perusing all the lists I decided I really did need to post my own.

Firstly, straight from the TBR list:

  • The Night Bird – Catherine Asaro
  • Ink and Steel – Elizabeth Bear
  • Hell and Earth – Elizabeth Bear
  • The Invisible Ring – Anne Bishop
  • The Shadow Queen – Anne Bishop
  • Midnight Never Come – Marie Brennan
  • The Hob’s Bargain – Patricia Briggs
  • War for the Oaks – Emma Bull
  • World’s End – Mark Chadbourn
  • The Initiate – Louise Cooper
  • Memory and Dream – Charles de Lint
  • Prophecy – Elizabeth Haydon
  • Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls – Jane Lindskold
  • Finnikin of the Rock – Melina Marchetta
  • Alphabet of Thorn – Patricia A. McKillip
  • Od Magic – Patricia A. McKillip
  • The Shadow of the Wind – Carlos Ruiz Zafon

And some others, from the bookshelf and from other people’s lists:

  • The Oak Above the Kings – Patricia Kennealy-Morrison
  • Moonheart – Charles de Lint
  • The Ordinary Princess – M. M. Kaye (finished 27-03-09)
  • The Hero and the Crown – Robin McKinley
  • Beauty – Robin McKinley
  • Song for the Basilisk – Patricia A. McKillip
  • Landslayer’s Law – Tom Deitz
  • The Infinity Concerto – Greg Bear
  • The Summer Tree – Guy Gavriel Kay
  • The Silent Tower – Barbara Hambly
  • Changer – Jane Lindskold
  • Tea with the Black Dragon – R. A. McAvoy
  • Deep Wizardry – Diane Duane
  • Stone of Farewell – Tad Williams
  • Fire and Hemlock- Diana Wynne Jones
  • The Merlin Conspiracy – Diana Wynne Jones
  • The White Dragon – Anne McCaffrey
  • The Little White Horse – Elizabeth Goudge

I know for sure that I want to read Memory and Dream (de Lint), Finnikin of the Rock (Marchetta) and one of the McKillips, but right now anything beyond that is negotiable. I’d like to cover more than one of the sub-categories if possible, but we’ll see what happens.

Of course, while typing up the lists I realised that I want to read everything!

I am hoping to read some Anne Bishop, maybe some Patricia Briggs and Charles de Lint, and I am hoping the new Carlos Ruiz Zafon comes out during the challenge.

You have a lot of neat books on your list. I'm a big Charles De Lint Fan. I just discovered Patricia Briggs not long ago and working my way through Mercy Thompson series. Will have to check out Hob's Garden.

Oh, you're kidding... Blogger just ate my comment. At least I think it did. It didn't tell me it'd show up in a few minutes anyway...

Recap, then. I've got Moonheart, Fire and Hemlock and The Shadow of the Wind somewhere on my TBR pile as well.

I may end up reading some Anne Bishop as well (I have Daughter of the Blood lying around anyway), but we'll see. I have only two books that I definitely want to read for this challenge. (Titus Groan and The Coyote Road if you're curious.)

Happy reading! And apologies for sounding a bit short now. It ate my comment. T-T *hopes it won't eat this comment too or double-post*

Oooh, I should have remembered Anne Bishop. I've been meaning to pick up Tangled Webs. You've got a lot of authors in there I've been meaning to read. I look forward to your reviews!

deslily - It's okay, you can relax. I've read all the Pern books up until the most recent ones when I got a bit tired of the new timeline. Most of that second list is things I'd like to reread and when I looked at all the Pern books sitting there on the shelf I decided The White Dragon was the one I'd most like to reread.

I really enjoyed the Black Jewels trilogy. I don't have a list as yet.

Ohhh, can I please add my vote for:

- The Ordinary Princess (MM Kaye)
- Beauty (Robin McKinley)
- The Summer Tree (Guy Gavriel Kay)

All great books. I just realised Guy Gavriel has kept writing, so I need to play catch up :)

You've got some nice titles on your list! I'd really like to read some Marie Brennan myself, as I've very much enjoyed the short fiction she's made available online, but unfortunately I'm in the middle of a gigantic TBR reduction scheme right now. Sigh. Next year.

I'll look forward to all your reviews!

Wow, what a great list, Kerry. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I have Ink and Steel on another TBR pile of mine. I've read several of yours - the Anne Bishops, War for the Oaks, Memory and Dream, Alphabet of Thorn - all very good books! I really look forward to you reviewing Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls, which I keep looking at in the stores, and The Hero and The Crown. Oh, I read Tea with the Black Dragon years ago - I have to reread it soon, I loved it! Same with The Summer Tree and Silent Tower and Beauty (one of my favourite versions of the story). Oh, splendid fantasy reading list, Kerry! I hope you have a lot of fun reading it and I do look forward to all your reviews :-D
